Hi, my name is Kat I am the founder of Seated Sewing. Since I was a little girl, I have been surrounded by strong, creative women, between my grandmother and mother, I was taught to sew at a young age. I discovered a real passion for it and over the years I have applied my skill to making clothes and home furnishings. However, ten years ago my life changed forever, I sustained a spinal injury which has left me in a wheelchair permanently. Over the course of the passing years my health has suffered many setbacks and left me with other medical complications, I now have permanent catheter and I also have a permanent peg for feeding among other things, all these things cause discomfort and pain. Having tubes rubbing against your skin under clothing all day long, I quickly realised that there was nothing specific on the market or provided by the NHS for these issues, so I became inspired to create my own solutions for these problems then I started to be asked to design solutions for other medical conditions and I spotted a gab in the market, there was no one out their who was designing and making protection items by people who used them everyday and know the problems that needed to be fixed! Every one of my products has been created with the purpose of give practical comfort to its wearer without taking anything away from their personality. I decided early on that my disability was not going to define me. Health issues are to be endured but life is too be celebrated and enjoyed, I want to reflect that in the things I make here at Seated Sewing!
