Purchasing from Plantlet Culture helps promote the STEM subjects to students across the UK I am a STEM Ambassador from York, UK. As a volunteer, I visit Schools, Colleges, Science/STEM Clubs, youth groups promoting the STEM [Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics] subjects. I use the test tubes as a real-life example of STEM linking the activity of growing a plant in a test tube with Micropropagation, plant science and career choices for the future. If you would like more information regarding STEM or would like to become an Ambassador, please visit www.stem.org.uk/stem-ambassadors Why I started the Numonday shop - ‘Inclusion’ To offer the test tubes in classroom packs [20 tubes] to allow teachers to use the kits in their lessons. This has led to small packs [4 & 8 tubes] being manufactured for home use either for education or for starting seed germination earlier in the year. Designed & manufactured in the UK - The gel recipes are unique to the plant species with a careful balance of auxin and cytokinin to promote root, shoot and leaf development. Small batches of the tubes are made to order, these are hand poured for accuracy in a laminar flow cabinet and left to cool overnight. Once the gel is set, the tubes are visually checked for any contamination, large air bubbles and colour density before being shipped. Environmental impact - The gel is a non-toxic, plant-based polymer designed for one plant - one use. Once disposed of the gel is bio-degradable and the test tube can be re-used with our Free fact sheets and then recycled.
