The festive season can feel busy, for small and big folk alike, and so we decided to simplify our Yule calendar design and focus on 4 opening stages. These can mirror the “lights of advent” dates (29th November, 6th, 13th and 20th December). Or instead you could open it during the traditional Yule celebration period, which sits between between the 21st of December and the 1st of January.
In truth, you can connect with the special contents of this box at anytime that suits your family rhythm during the Winter period. Exactly when you choose to engage with the thoughtful rituals and activities that can be found within isn’t really the focus for us. What matters, and what we hope for you, is that it helps you and your kin to slow down, to play, to create, to connect with nature and one another. To just be together.
Each opening stage celebrates a different theme; either peace, love, hope or joy.
Each opening stage set includes:
❄ A Yule fairy decoration embellished to represent the theme in question (design to be modified slightly this year).
❄ A card that includes two activities, both of which support reflection on the theme in question. Our activity cards come presented in an envelope which has been closed with a wax snowflake seal.
❄ A hand poured walnut candle to light while connecting with the set theme and activities.
The last gallery picture shows our ‘peace’ activity card, with all the other elements for the opening stage of that theme.
As you can see, each activity card comes with two suggestions; ‘food for the soul’ and ‘art for the heart’. The former is a wellbeing activity and the latter is creative.
We would prefer not to share more than one with you because we think there will be much magic in the surprise. But if you would like previews of the other three then please do message us. Rest assured, they have each been thoughtfully and lovingly designed. All the activities are inclusive, with engagement opportunities for children of all ages, including really big ones.
Each Yule Calendar set as a whole also includes:
❄ A beech candle stand to safely hold your candle.
❄ A decorated presentation box, filled with rainbow eco shredded paper packing.
❄ An illustrated fact sheet about Yule.
❄ An instruction leaflet explaining the contents and how they can be used.
❄ An equipment list so you can prepare for the activities in advance.
We are currently producing a simple accompanying document, so that the any adults supporting feel fully prepared to support any children exploring the activities included. This will be shared with customers after purchase via email.
Our calendar is designed to be used year after year, promoting reflective conversation, play and precious time spent together as a family making memories and co-creating your own special ritual. We will offer refresher sets in 2022, including candles and new activity cards, so that your calendar can grow with you in the future. This will include sets for all the main festivals, or sabbats, throughout the wheel of the year.
Our packaging is all recycled, recyclable and compostable; this includes the bags our makes travel in, which are certified food safe and so can be reused to pack adventure time snacks.
