I cut an oval/egg shape of clear glass – all by hand, no grinder or saw. The piece is approximately 8×5.5cm Then I painted a boy’s head silhouette with glasses and lightening scar, tiny owl and cauldron.
The piece was then fired in my kiln to set the image. After firing I then added a small amount of silver stain to the back of the piece – this is where the term stained glass originates, a technique used since the medieval ages. The surplus silver stain is then washed off leaving the yellow alteration on the glass.
I then edged the small panel with copper foil, added a small hanging loop and then applied black patina to give an aged look.
Can be displayed on the window sucker provided or on a plain wall so the design shows up.
