All pieces handmade by Alison Rushbrooke BA hons.
I would think most people have some memory of a Grannies button box, for me this is were my button fascination started. Playing for hours with my Grans and my Mums button collections, from the mysterious jet black victorian ones, to the run of the mill white shirt button cut off my Dads shirt, they all had a story to tell. This was where my interest in buttons began. As a child I spent most of my time making things, anything I could find was utilised. I was very keen on art at school and went on to study sculpture at Edinburgh College of Art. In my final year show I produced an installation using thousands of buttons, by then my interest had become an obsession! I graduated in 2001 and after spending a while longer in Edinburgh I decided to return to my home in the Highlands. After the birth of my son I started to expand my jewellery making from, the odd pieces for friends and family to selling at markets and then finding shops to sell my creations, turning it into a full time job and being able to live in a beautiful part of the world. I rent a studio space come shop where I work from on the shores of Loch Ewe – feeling privileged to be able to live, work and bring my son up in the only place I ever wanted to be – Thank You for helping to make that all possible :)
