The dark hedges – original acrylic painting

This is a painting of the Dark Hedges, an avenue of beech trees planted back in 1775 by a local landowner to create an imposing approach to his home.

The area was made popular by the TV show ‘Game of Thrones’ and is now one of the most photographed natural phenomenons in Northern Ireland.

Painted in vibrant acrylic paint and ink on a deep set canvas which does not require a frame. The canvas measures 20 x 50 x 4.5cm. The edges of the canvas have been painted in a dark midnight blue. The canvas has been sprayed with satin varnish to protect from UV light and dust.

Hi, I’m Nicola McLean, an artist from the north of Ireland, currently living in the far north of Scotland with three fancy rats, two west highland terriers and one husband.

I paint whatever inspires me – nine times out of ten that will be animals of all shapes and sizes but I also love landscapes both urban and natural, all of which I re-imagine using as colourful a palette as possible.
