Description
Deeply textured, glossy grey square form, 25cm square by 8cm deep
This dish was made using a technique called kiln-carving with creates a deep bas relief texture – the texture is on the reverse of the form, creating varying depths of coloured grey glass. In this design, the interlocking circles are indented into the glass, rather than raised.
The glass has been fused and slumped in one of my digitally controlled, specialist glass kilns and has been annealed for strength and durability. This is quite a substantial piece, which began life as three layers of 3mm glass – the resultant piece varies in thickness from about 7mm at the thickest, slightly darker parts, down to about 4mm on the lighter circles. It is a weighty piece, a statement
The piece has been handmade in my studio in Ilkeston, Derbyshire and is currently the only one of these that I have ever made in this colour.
It is an original design sample and is not available anywhere else.
