Rewilding – Trafalgar Square – original acrylic on paper

Rewild: restore (an areas of land) to its natural uncultivated state (used especially with reference to the reintroduction of species of wild animals that had been driven out or exterminated).

This is the idea behind a series of paintings I’m working on called ‘rewilding’ only in this scenario imagine that despite being warned repeatedly we refused to listen and the doomsday clock made it all the way to midnight (it’s currently at 2 minutes to). The planet is now free of humans and rewilding has occurred naturally, the rest of the animal kingdom having once again found the perfect balance they had before our interference. Nature has reclaimed her space and all is once again right with the world.

This is the first in the series where I decided to bring one of those famous lions in Trafalgar Square to life.

Painted used acrylic paint and acrylic ink on mixed media paper. Please note for ease of worldwide postage, this painting is not mounted/matted or framed. The photos showing the frame is by way of example only.

Hi, I’m Nicola McLean, an artist from the north of Ireland, currently living in the far north of Scotland with three fancy rats, two west highland terriers and one husband.

I paint whatever inspires me – nine times out of ten that will be animals of all shapes and sizes but I also love landscapes both urban and natural, all of which I re-imagine using as colourful a palette as possible.
