On the road again – original Route 66 acrylic art

Inspired by a road trip across America on Route 66 taken a few years ago, this painting is a scene of the original highway 66 near Amboy, California.

Painted using acrylic paint, I also used an acrylic modelling paste to create a textured background on the canvas which worked well in giving a sense of the dusty, arid scrubland and dry, cracked surface of the highway itself.

The canvas measures 30 x 25 x 4cm and is deep edge gallery wrapped with the edges finished in indigo so it doesn’t need to be framed.

As with all my paintings, it has been sprayed with satin varnish to protect it from dust and UV light damage.

Hi, I’m Nicola McLean, an artist from the north of Ireland, currently living in the far north of Scotland with three fancy rats, two west highland terriers and one husband.

I paint whatever inspires me – nine times out of ten that will be animals of all shapes and sizes but I also love landscapes both urban and natural, all of which I re-imagine using as colourful a palette as possible.
