What is Limestone?
Limestone is a sedimentary rock, composed mainly of skeletal fragments of marine organisms such as coral, forams and molluscs.
What is Sea Glass?
Genuine Sea Glass has been rolled and tumbled in the ocean for many years, some for decades or even a century and longer, until the edges are rounded off and the appearance is frosted.
All little dents and scratches are natural and that makes it so unique and beautiful.
For me it’s almost magical that the Sea transforms the waste glass into beautiful Sea Glass and washes it back to the shore. Finding these little gems brings me much joy and reminds me of The Legend of Mermaid Tears.
The Legend of Mermaid Tears
There are a few legends being told. Here is one of them:
Neptune forbid the sea maidens to use their abilities to change the course of nature. But one of the mermaids fell in love with a ship’s captain and calmed the wind and waves to save the man’s life during a stormy night. Neptune exiled her to the depths of the ocean. Never to see the sunlight again. Still today her tears wash up on the shore as seaglass as a reminder of her true love.
The Quality of Seaham Sea Glass is breathtaking and unique.
Sea Glass Lovers travel from far to handpick some of the washed ashore Glass.
Where does it come from?
The Londonderry Bottleworks operated till 1921 in Seaham, England and dumped unwanted glass into the North Sea.
And till today, almost after a century, the Sea returns the waste glass that now is transformed beautifully into sand-polished and wave-tumbled Sea Glass.
