Handmade mini notebook with hand-marbled edges (notebooks, stationery)

Description

This handmade mini book is special! Not many people these days go to the trouble of hand-marbling book edges, so this is your chance to own a book with hand-marbled edges. It would make a really special gift for someone discerning.
160 pages of 120 gsm cream paper
Dimensions: L8.1 x W6.5 x D2 cm
This book took many hours to make. These were some of the steps in its creation:
– the paper for the book block is folded in half and then arranged in sections
– the sections are pierced and sewn with linen thread
– a bath of Carrageenan moss solution is prepared overnight
– paints are added to the bath and added to create unique marbled patterns
– each edge of the book block is laid on the marbled pattern in turn and then removed and left to dry
– the end papers are made and attached to the book block
– the spine of the book block is lined and the endbands are added
– the cover is cut out from bookbinding greyboard
– the boards are covered in the bookbinding buckram and my marbled paper and the book is cased in
– the book is left overnight in the press and voilà, the book is ready!
