Description
Gas Street Basin in Birmingham is a hive of activity. Boats and bars, canals and clubs, it’s all happening here. And it’s a great place to come and moor up or gongoozle a while. Gas Street, so named because it was the first street in Birmingham to be fitted with gas lighting. Before that it was called Regency Wharf. You can imagine the frantic activity back in the day, with barges being loaded and unloaded, all surrounded by dirty, smokey factories feeding the Industrial Revolution. That’s how Birmingham became known as “The city of a thousand trades”.
