Essential Oils
safety / disclaimer
Some of our products contain herbs and/or essential oils which affect the body through skin application and inhalation. They can stimulate or relax us. They can relieve us of pain and inflammation.

They can support and balance the primary systems within our bodies.

Our products are designed to work holistically in supporting our own system of healing, recovery, stimulation and regeneration. We may occasionally describe a beneficial property of an ingredient

(IE: anti-inflammatory), but we make no medicinal claim for our products. Similarly, no claims should be taken as intended or implied.

Disclaimer 1
The information on our website and via other social media channels is for personal information and interest only. It is not intended to offer professional medical advice or treatment for any condition. You should not use our site or advice within to treat health conditions or to self-diagnose. We recommend that you consult your GP or nurse if you have any health concerns whatsoever.

All of our advice has been provided on the basis that there are no known contra-indications to treatment. If you have any health problems or are taking any medication you should seek advice from your healthcare provider prior to using our products.

Please note that we accept no liability for misuse of our products or for any reliance on the information provided by us via our website or other social media channels.

Essential oils are highly concentrated, powerful liquids. Their potency must be respected and they can be toxic if used incorrectly. The way you handle and use essential oils is very important. Please read the following advice to help ensure that you use essential oils safely and effectively. Please note that this list does not constitute a complete safety reference. If you are unsure please contact Root and Flower in writing.

If you have a medical condition and are taking any medication or undergoing any type of medical treatment you should check with your doctor to ensure that it is safe to use aromatherapy in conjunction with your prescribed treatment.

Certain essential oils (i.e. spices) can cause skin irritation for people with sensitive skin. If you have sensitive skin we recommend performing a small patch test prior to using any new oil or product.

A few essential oils such as Bergamot and other citrus oils are phototoxic which means they can cause skin sensitization and skin discoloration in bright sunlight. These oils should be avoided in sunny weather.

Pregnancy: During this special and delicate time, it is not uncommon for a woman’s changing body to be sensitive to essential oils. Due to these sensitivities and all the changes that occur within the body during this time, you should always seek professional medical advice prior to using aromatherapy whilst pregnant.

Although this is a subject of on-going research and debate, an essential oil dilution rate of 1% is sometimes suggested for use of essential oils in pregnancy.

As I blend all herbal and Flower products at dilution rates above 1%, I choose not to advise their use in pregnancy without chatting to your doctor or midwife first.

Even if you have used essential oils before without incident, you should still inform your doctor of any essential oils you plan to use during your pregnancy. Your doctor knows you and your specific health concerns and therefore should be made aware of all essential oil products you plan to use during pregnancy.

Because each pregnancy is different, your doctor is the best resource for making a treatment plan and determining which essential oils are best to use during pregnancy. Your doctor can give you a good idea of what to avoid during pregnancy, and any other safety measures you should take based on your personal health and the health of your growing baby.

Certain essential oils should be avoided during pregnancy. Please seek professional medical advice prior to using aromatherapy whilst pregnant.

Keep products out of the reach of children.

Always consult a qualified aromatherapist before using essential oils with babies and children.
