Whenever I’m at the beach at home or abroad I always collect little bits of driftwood and tiny interesting pebbles and shells. I also use little bits found in forests and woods that I then dry and use. This little driftwood art scene has been made from items collected from a beach in Menorca and Devon. It’s a really detailed piece.
I love driftwood and it works so well with distressed chalk paint. Each one I make is completely different to the next which makes each piece unique.
The heavy block base of the piece was found on a beach in Devon with rusty nails sticking out all over it and I cut it in half and have attached another piece of driftwood at the back to create height like a cliff. The piece measures approx. 14.5cm long and 6cm wide at its widest point. It is approx. 10cm high. The base has been waxed with clear wax.
I have used some reclaimed timber for the 9 cottages and the church that have been painted with Duck Egg Blue, Dark Duck Egg Blue, Grey, Lemon, Sandcastle, Sage Green and Pale Pink and lightly distressed. The windows have been painted on the cottages.
The roof of the cottages and doors are made from a shaped piece of driftwood. Each roof has a chimney made from a nail.
There are small rocks around the piece and dried seaweed.
There are bollards with a fence all along the front of the piece with a ladder made from matchsticks going down the quayside.
There are small pieces of dried wood, rocks and coral used on the piece all collected from a beach in Menorca.
This item is not a toy and has pointed objects.
The scene is well wrapped in bubble wrap for posting as a signed for parcel.
