How to connect Stripe

Stripe is the secure payment provider for Numonday. You must connect Stripe before you can accept orders. Payments go into your Stripe account and then pay out to your bank.

Before you start — have these ready

  • Legal name, date of birth, home address
  • Bank account number and sort code (or IBAN)
  • Email address
  • Company? Also: company name, registered address, company number
  • Not a company? Choose Individual / Sole Trader
  • Your business website — use your Numonday shop link if you don’t have one

Connect Stripe — step by step

  1. Log in to your Numonday account
  2. Go to Shop Manager → Settings → Payments
  3. Click Connect with Stripe
  4. On Stripe’s page, connect an existing account or create a new one
  5. Complete Stripe’s form: business type, personal details, bank account
  6. Stripe may request photo ID or proof of address for verification
  7. When finished you’ll return to Numonday — your shop is ready to accept payments

What Stripe will ask for

  • Business type: Individual/Sole Trader or Company
  • Business website: your Numonday shop URL (e.g. numonday.com/shop/your-shop-name)
  • Owner details: full legal name, date of birth, home address
  • Banking: account holder name, sort code/account number or IBAN
  • Verification: government ID and, if requested, proof of address or company documents
  • Category: if unsure, choose Retail → Other Merchandise

Selling more: photos, titles, tracking and followers

  • Our short guide covers the things that most affect sales — four photos per listing, titles that match what buyers type, an honest dispatch time, adding tracking when you post, replying to buyer messages, and sharing your shop. Read Sell more on Numonday.
  • Buyers can now follow your shop and save your listings — followers are emailed when you list something new, so listing little and often pays off.

Best practice

  • Use your legal name and address exactly as shown on official documents
  • Make sure your bank account name matches the entered account holder name
  • Upload clear, uncropped photos/scans for any verification documents
  • Keep your Stripe email and phone current for two-step verification

Troubleshooting

No website?

Use your Numonday shop link as your business website: numonday.com/shop/your-shop-name

Company number issue?

Include the leading zero — e.g. 01234567 not 1234567.

Missing business category?

Choose Retail → Other Merchandise.

Not a registered company?

Choose Individual / Sole Trader — this is correct for most makers.

Bank account rejected?

Double-check the sort code/IBAN and ensure the account holder name matches exactly.

“We need more information” from Stripe

Log in to Stripe directly and upload the requested ID, address, or company documents.

Can’t log in to Stripe?

Try the email used on Numonday and check your spam folder for Stripe emails.

Two-step verification issues?

Use your Stripe backup codes or go through Stripe’s account recovery flow.

Duplicate Stripe account?

Log into the account linked to Numonday and close the unused one in Stripe.

Security: Stripe is PCI-compliant and uses industry-standard encryption. Numonday never stores card details — all payments are handled by Stripe.

Adding and editing products

Each product has its own page covering title, images, price, stock, description and options. Connect Stripe first so you can accept payments.

Moving from Etsy? We’ll import your listings

  1. In Etsy go to Shop Manager → Settings → Options → Download Data and download your listings CSV
  2. Email the file to hello@numonday.com from your Numonday account email
  3. We load every listing into your shop as a draft — photos, title, description, price, stock and a category
  4. Set your delivery in Shop Manager → Settings → Shipping, check the drafts, and publish (or ask us to publish them all)

It’s free. Listings that use trademarks or copyrighted material (brand names, club badges, characters, celebrities, other people’s artwork) can’t be imported and we’ll tell you which. Digital downloads come across without their file; attach it before publishing.

Add a new product

  1. Go to Shop Manager → Products → Add New
  2. Title: be specific (e.g. “Sterling Silver Initial Necklace, Personalised”)
  3. Description: materials, dimensions, colours, care, packaging, dispatch time
  4. Price & stock: set a realistic price and stock level you can fulfil
  5. Images: upload 1–5 clear photos; main image should show the whole item
  6. Category: choose a category
  7. Click Submit to publish

Edit an existing product

  1. Go to Products → All Products
  2. Click Edit on the product
  3. Update text, images, price or stock as needed
  4. Click Update to save

Adding variations (sizes, colours, etc.)

  1. Open the product and set Product Type to Variable Product
  2. Go to Attributes → add an attribute (e.g. Size or Colour)
  3. Enter options separated by a vertical bar: Small | Medium | Large
  4. Tick Used for variations → Save attributes
  5. Go to Variations → Create variations from all attributes
  6. Set price, stock and optional image for each variation → Save changes
  7. Click Update on the product

Personalisation (names, dates, wording)

  • Products with personalised, custom, engraved, monogram, initial or name in the title automatically show an optional Personalisation box on the listing, where the buyer types what they want.
  • To change it, edit the product: set Personalisation to On or Off, write your own prompt (for example “What name would you like on the tag?”), make it Required so buyers can’t add the item to their basket without filling it in, and set a character limit (200 if left blank).
  • What the buyer types shows in their basket and at checkout, on the order, in your new-order email and on your order screen in Shop Manager. Buyers see it in their confirmation email too, so typos get spotted early.
  • Mistakes in what a buyer typed themselves aren’t a Buyer Protection claim. Contact the buyer and sort it as any shop would.

Best practice

  • Good lighting, plain background, multiple angles — fill most of the frame
  • Use short sections or bullet points in descriptions, not long paragraphs
  • Price to cover materials, time, overheads and packaging — not just materials
  • For made-to-order: state lead time clearly in the description and use low stock numbers
  • Keep stock updated across all sales channels to avoid overselling
Deleting a product — go to Products, click Delete and confirm. Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.

Shipping

Manage shipping rates in Shop Manager → Settings → Shipping.

One price: what buyers pay and what you receive

  • Buyers see a single price on every listing: your item price, your UK delivery for one item and Buyer Protection, with nothing added at checkout. It reads “£57.50 incl. UK delivery & Buyer Protection”.
  • You receive 100% of your item price and your postage on every sale. Buyer Protection is paid by the buyer and never comes out of your earnings.
  • Your delivery cost is inside the number buyers compare, so keep it honest and realistic.
  • Your order screen and emails stay itemised (item, delivery) so you can see exactly what you’re paid for.

How shipping works: three levels

  • Numonday default — applies to any product where you haven’t set your own rate: £4 UK delivery and £12 international delivery, each charged once per order however many items are bought.
  • Your shop-wide rates (Shop Manager → Settings → Shipping) replace the Numonday default for every product in your shop. Set these first — most sellers only ever need this level.
  • Product-specific rates (edit the product → Shipping) replace your shop-wide rate for that one item only. Use them for anything that costs more to post than the rest of your shop, such as a heavy or bulky piece.
  • Leave a product’s shipping empty and it uses your shop-wide settings in full; leave your shop settings empty and it uses the Numonday default. You never have to fill in every product. But once you give a product its own delivery cost, that product uses its own settings for everything — maximum charge, once per order and free-over included — so set those on the product too if you want them to apply to it.
The Numonday defaults are a safety net for shops that haven’t set anything, not a fit for every item. Cards, prints and other large-letter items usually post for less than £4; heavy parcels and tracked postage usually cost more. Set your own rates so buyers are charged what your items really cost to send.

Set shop-wide shipping rates

  1. Go to Shop Manager → Settings → Shipping
  2. Set your UK delivery rate — this is built into the price buyers see on every listing, so keep it sharp (or offer free UK delivery and build postage into your item price)
  3. Set your International delivery rate — this is added at checkout for buyers outside the UK. Leave it blank and the £12 Numonday default applies; use Disable international shipping if you don’t post abroad at all
  4. Leave Charge once per order ticked so multi-item orders pay delivery once, the way Royal Mail charges per parcel
  5. Click Save Changes

International delivery

  • Every product page tells buyers whether you post abroad. International delivery available · cost shown at checkout appears in green when a rate applies (yours, or the Numonday default). International delivery unavailable appears in red only when international shipping has been disabled for that product or your shop.
  • Buyers outside the UK pay your item price, Buyer Protection and your international delivery rate. Your UK delivery is swapped out for the international rate at checkout — it is never charged on top — so an overseas buyer pays item + Buyer Protection + international delivery, nothing more.
  • To charge more for a heavy or bulky item abroad, set an international rate on that product. It replaces your shop-wide international rate for that item only.
  • To stop posting abroad, use Disable international shipping in Shop Manager → Settings → Shipping for your whole shop, or on an individual product’s shipping settings for just that item.
  • Buyer Protection covers non-delivery abroad as well as at home, so post international orders tracked and keep proof of posting. Tracked international postage costs more than untracked, so price your international rate to cover the service you actually use.

Minimum and maximum charges, and free delivery over a value

  1. Go to Shop Manager → Settings → Shipping
  2. Set a Maximum shipping charge to cap what any one order is charged for delivery — for UK and international separately. Useful if you charge per item and don’t want large orders to run up a big postage bill
  3. Set a Minimum shipping charge if small orders need a floor to cover packaging
  4. Set Free shipping over an order value to give free delivery on larger orders — a strong nudge for buyers to add one more item. It’s checked against the total of your items in the order, however many they buy
  5. Save changes

Set shipping for a specific product

  1. Open the product in Products
  2. Go to the Shipping tab
  3. Add the UK delivery fee for this product, and an International fee if it costs more to post abroad than the rest of your shop. Leave either blank to use your shop-wide rate. If you do set a product’s own fee, also set its maximum charge, once-per-order and free-over here — your shop-wide versions won’t apply to a product that has its own cost. To stop this one item going abroad, use Disable international shipping on this tab
  4. Save changes
Product-level shipping overrides your shop-wide settings for that item only.

Dispatch time and estimated delivery

  • Set how long you need before an order is posted in Settings → Shipping: 1 to 10 working days for ready-to-post items, or a made-to-order lead time from “up to 2 weeks” to “6 to 8 weeks”. Shops that haven’t set one show 3 working days.
  • Buyers see it on every listing as “Posts within 3 working days · Estimated delivery Tue 1 – Mon 7 Sep”, or “Made to order · posts within 2–3 weeks”. Working days are Monday to Friday and exclude bank holidays; orders placed after 2pm count from the next working day.
  • An individual product can have its own time (edit the product → Dispatch time for this product), useful for one made-to-order piece in a ready-to-post shop.
  • Every order records the date you’ve promised to post by, and the Buyer Protection “not arrived” clock only starts 10 days after the estimated window ends, so an honest dispatch time protects you. Holiday mode hides the estimate while you’re away.

Shipping overcharge? Here’s what to do

  • Contact the customer, apologise, and refund the extra via Stripe, then email us the order number so we can pass it back to the buyer (see Processing refunds)
  • Update your shipping settings to prevent it happening again
Current limitations: shipping is a flat rate — one UK rate and one international rate per shop, or per product. Per-country and weight-based rates aren’t available yet. These are being improved.

Managing orders and refunds

Handle all orders in Shop Manager → Orders.

Buyer Protection claims: orders that don’t arrive

  • Buyer Protection is paid by the buyer inside the price they see; you receive 100% of your item price and postage. If a buyer reports an order as not arrived, they email us, not you.
  • We’ll email you the order number. Reply within two working days with the date you posted and your tracking or proof of postage.
  • Posted within your dispatch time with proof of postage: Numonday covers the refund and your payout stays with you. Never posted, or posted late without proof: the refund is taken from your payout.
  • Damaged or not-as-described items aren’t Buyer Protection claims. They’re yours to put right with the buyer, as in any shop.
  • Keep proof of postage for every order; a Royal Mail certificate of posting is free. Full details: How Buyer Protection works.

Order statuses

  • Processing: payment received — make/pack and dispatch the order
  • Completed: order fulfilled — triggers a review email to the buyer
  • Cancelled: order cancelled by buyer or seller

Communicating with buyers

  • Buyers can message you from any of your listings or your shop page. The message arrives in your inbox from hello@numonday.com — just reply to that email and it goes straight to the buyer. Replying quickly is one of the surest ways to win the sale
  • For an existing order, use the email address shown on the order
  • When you post, add the courier and tracking number on the order in Shop Manager — the buyer gets it automatically with a live tracking link
  • If an order is marked as a gift, the order note tells you: include the gift message and leave prices out of the parcel

Reminders and “Has it arrived?”

  • If an order hasn’t been marked as posted by its dispatch-by date, you’ll get a reminder the day before and on the day
  • Two days after the delivery estimate ends, we ask the buyer whether their order has arrived. “Yes” completes the order and invites a review; “Not yet” emails you and us so you can check the tracking and reply to the buyer
  • Adding tracking when you post is your proof of postage under Buyer Protection and cuts “where is it?” messages to almost nothing

Followers and saves

  • Buyers can follow your shop and save your listings. Shop Manager shows how many follow you, how many saves you have, and your most-saved pieces
  • Followers are emailed when you list something new, and anyone who saved an item is told when it’s back in stock — so listing little and often pays off
  • Every Monday you’ll get a short summary of new followers and saves, if there are any

Processing refunds

  • Log in to your Stripe account, open the payment for the order and refund the amount you want to return
  • That’s it. Numonday is told automatically the moment you do it: you’ll get a confirmation email, the order is noted, and we refund the customer
  • Refunds take about 5–10 working days to reach the customer’s card, depending on their bank
You no longer need to email us about refunds — issuing it in Stripe is the whole process. Partial refunds work the same way. If you can’t find the payment in Stripe, email hello@numonday.com with the order number and we’ll do it for you.

Managing your subscription

Manage billing securely from within your account — no emailed links needed.

Your plan, receipts and card

  • Everything to do with your subscription is under Shop Manager → Membership: your current plan, your receipts, the card on file, and the option to cancel
  • To change your card, open Shop Manager → Membership and choose Update billing. The new card is used from the next renewal
  • We email a receipt for every payment, a reminder a few days before each renewal, and a notice if a payment fails or your card is about to expire

Cancelling

  • Go to Shop Manager → Membership and choose Cancel. No further charges are taken, and your shop stays live until the end of the period you’ve already paid for — you get a confirmation email with the date
  • No further charges are taken. If you cancel within 14 days of first joining you can ask us for a refund; after that, payments already made aren’t refunded
  • On that date your listings and shop content are removed. If you sell again later, you rejoin and list afresh — so download anything you need before then
Can’t find it? Reply to any Numonday email or write to hello@numonday.com and we’ll cancel it for you the same day.

Shopping on Numonday

Buying on Numonday is simple and secure — here’s how it works.

Placing an order

  • Browse by category or search for items and shops
  • The price shown on every product already includes UK delivery and Numonday Buyer Protection — nothing is added at checkout
  • Pay securely by card at checkout — all payments processed by Stripe

Questions before you buy

  • Every listing and shop page has a Message the maker button. Ask about sizes, colours, personalisation or timing — the maker replies to your email
  • Buying it as a gift? At checkout, tick “This is a gift” to add a message for the recipient and keep prices out of the parcel

Favourites and following

  • Tap the heart on anything to save it, or Follow shop on a maker’s page. Find them all under Favourites
  • Log in (or enter your email when asked) and we’ll tell you when a saved item is back in stock or a maker you follow lists something new

Finding things

  • Category pages have filters for price, ready-to-post, made-to-order and personalisable items
  • Stuck for ideas? The gift guides are grouped by person, budget and occasion
  • Want something made near you? Handmade in your town lists the makers in each place

Buyer Protection: if your order doesn’t arrive

  • Every order is covered by Numonday Buyer Protection. If it hasn’t arrived within 10 days after the end of the estimated delivery window on your order confirmation, email hello@numonday.com with your order number and we refund you in full, normally within two working days. Claims must be made within 30 days of the estimated delivery date.
  • Check with neighbours, safe places and any Royal Mail “something for you” card first: most late parcels are one of those.
  • Damaged or not-as-described items aren’t covered by Buyer Protection: contact the seller, who will put it right with a repair, replacement or refund. If you can’t agree, email hello@numonday.com and we’ll help.
  • Full details: How Buyer Protection works.

Personalisation

  • If an item can be personalised, you’ll see a Personalisation box on the listing above Add to basket. Type it exactly as you want it, spelling included: it’s shown in your basket, at checkout and in your confirmation email, and goes straight to the maker.
  • If the maker has made it required, you’ll need to fill it in before you can add the item to your basket.
  • Check your confirmation email. Mistakes in the personalisation you supplied aren’t covered by Buyer Protection, so if you spot one, contact the seller straight away.

Dispatch times and delivery estimates

  • Every listing shows how quickly the maker posts and an estimated delivery window, for example “Posts within 3 working days · Estimated delivery Tue 1 – Mon 7 Sep”. Made-to-order pieces show their lead time instead.
  • Working days are Monday to Friday and don’t include bank holidays; orders placed after 2pm count from the next working day. The same window is on your order confirmation.
  • If nothing has arrived 10 days after the window ends, Buyer Protection applies: email hello@numonday.com with your order number. See How Buyer Protection works.

Order status and tracking

  • When the maker posts your order you’ll get an “on its way” email. If they’ve added tracking, it includes the courier, the number and a live Track parcel link — the same details show on your order in My account
  • Two days after your delivery estimate we’ll email to ask if it’s arrived. Tap Yes or Not yet — “Not yet” tells the maker and us straight away

Refunds and returns

  • Every order is covered by Buyer Protection: if it doesn’t arrive, you get a full refund
  • For anything else — a change of mind, a problem with the item — message the maker first using the button on their listing or shop page. Most sellers sort things directly
  • Refunds take about 5–10 working days to reach your card once issued
  • If you can’t reach the maker, email hello@numonday.com with your order number

Leaving a review

  • You’ll receive an email when the seller marks your order as complete
  • Honest reviews help other buyers and support trusted sellers
